The ‘new world’ covers a huge range of wines but in this Ecole we will be looking at some of the emerging areas that are being considered as new classic styles. Central Otago pinot noirs from New Zealand, Leyda sauvignon blancs from Chile, Hunter Valley Semillons from Australia are just some of the countries, grapes and regions that we will focus on, showing how careful consideration of vineyard site and varieties used have made them a success.

NORTHERN ITALY WINE SCHOOL

JUNE 8th AND 9th 2012
The north of Italy produces some of the worlds most classic wines - deep Autumnal Barolos and Barbarescos from Piedmont, concentrated Amarones from Valpolicella in Veneto and some unusual finds such as riesling and gewürztraminer in the Trentino- Alto Adige region. In this masterclass we will look at the the combination of new and ancient winemaking as it follows tradition but also innovates. Climate and topography is key to success in Italy so we will concentrate on these factors.

Californian wines really started to become exciting in the 70’s when many successful San Franciscans took life style changes and moved up to make wines in Napa valley. Following on from the famous Judgment of Paris when Californian wine beat the best of France they wines gained credibility and a worldwide demand. In this masterclass we concentrate on the wines of the Napa and Sonoma valleys and how the geography and climate affect these wines.
